Welcome to Sort Shots- iPad Edition

Upon your first use of Sort Shots you will be given the option to resize your images. We recommend resizing your images to optimize Sort Shots. If however, you wish to assign keywords and ratings back out of Sort Shots or prefer to view all of your images in only the full resolution than please expect some delays as the iPad processor and memory will take longer.
Add Photos
To Add Photo’s to your Sort Shots Library we recommend using iTunes or the
function. iTunes Folder is the easiest way to import images into Sort Shots.
If you have already tagged your images with ratings and keywords, you don’t have to do anything different – simply drag your images into Sort Shots and your tags will appear.
Sort Shots utilizes metadata keywords and ratings assigned to images from/to:

Using iTunes:
1. Connect iPad with your computer & open iTunes
2. On the left side panel of iTunes, click on your iPad under ‘Devices’.
3. Click on the ‘Apps’ index tab and scroll down to ‘File Sharing’. Click on ‘Sort Shots’. You will see a list of all of your images in Sort Shots. You are now ready to add photos from your computer into Sort Shots.

4. Locate the images you wish to add – you can select all the images in a file by opening up the desired folder and pressing ‘Ctrl – A’ (select All) or select specific images by holding down the ‘Ctrl’ button and clicking on the images.

5. Simply Click-and-Hold while dragging the selected images over to the ‘Sort Shots Documents’ area (as shown in Step 3). Your ‘Sort Shots Documents’ will now include your newly added files.
6. Sync your iPad with iTunes
7. Open up Sort Shots and wait while the images are indexed. If you are already in Sort Shots you will need to re-enter the program. Once complete, you will see the images in your Sort Shots library. Note: the first time new images are added indexing may take a few minutes. Subsequently, indexing will only occur if there are changes to your Sort Shots library.
FTP
If you need a FTP client please try, FileZilla
Choose a Windows or Mac version. Click on ‘Save’ file. Once the download is complete, open the file and click on ‘Run’ and ‘I Agree’ to the Terms and Conditions followed by ‘next’. Select the components to install – ensure that the ‘FileZilla Client’ is selected. The remainder of options are optional. Select the destination on your c: drive then click on ‘Finish’.
To transfer files via FTP:
Open Sort Shots – tap on ‘+’ and select ‘FTP’ a box
will appear showing the host and port: ‘Connect to 192.168.1.65 Port 8080′

Open your FTP client, enter the host address into the ‘Host: _____’ and enter in the Port address in the ‘Port:____’ field. You can leave the Username and Password blank. Click on Quickconnect.

The ‘Local Site’ will show the files on your computer and the Remote Site will show the photo files on your iPad. To add new files, point to the folder on your ‘Local Site’ and drag and new files over into the ‘Remote Site’. Select an entire folder of images using the select all function (Ctrl-A). Your files will be queued and transfered to your iPad.
Once the files have been transfered, you can close the FTP and click on ‘Stop FTP Server’ on your iPad. The images will now be in your library.
Delete files using FTP by:
- Selecting the files you wish to delete from your Sort Shots library within your FTP client under “Remote Site” and press the ‘Delete’ key. Select multiple images by holding down the Ctrl key while selecting the file names.
- Upon completion, exit out of Sort Shots and re-enter. The photos will no longer appear.
Directly from Your iPad
To add images from your iPad
1. Tap on ![]()
2. Select the Photo Album you wish to import from.
3. A list of images will appear – Simply tap on the images you wish to add (the image will darken for a moment while it is being added).

4. Tap outside of the ‘Photo Library’ area once you are finished to close the ‘Photo Library’ box.
Tag
The library is the main area to add terms and ratings to your photos. At the tap of a button, you will be able to sort through all of your images. If you already imported images with existing tags you can add additional tags or simply, jump to sorting and sequencing.
Custom Tags & Categories
To create your own custom tag:
1. Tap on the images you want to wish to add a specific tag too – a red check mark will appear on the images.

2. Tap on
and then the tag word you wish to assign to the selected images.

3. If you wish to create a new tag word tap on
and type in your new tag. To add a 2nd or 3rd level tag i.e. ‘Places – Palouse’ highlight the tag you wish to associate the subcategory with by tapping on the tag (indicated with a blue highlight) and then tap
in the second column. The procedure is exactly the same for a third level tag word.
4. To associate your new tag(s) with the image tap on the check mark – it will turn green.
5. Tap on ‘Done’.
6. Continue to select and deselect images and adding tags. Tap on
to deselect any images you have chosen.
Hint: Tags associated with images will appear in blue.
Hint: By selecting and deselecting images you can quickly add multiple tags to images for easy sorting. For example, I can select five images and tag them as ‘Places à Palouse’ then deselect one image and assign a place to the remaining four images so I have the tags Places à Palouse à Fields’ assigned to them.
Favorites
Add a photograph to your Favorites with a press-and-hold action on a thumbnail or tap on the
in the full image view and a heart will appear on the corner of the image in the library. Once selected as a favorite, the icon in the individual will change color
. To remove, press and hold or simply tap a second time in the individual image view.
Ratings:
Rating your photos can be done in both the Tag and Sort views. To rate a photograph, simply tap on the appropriate number of stars you wish to assign to a photograph, or choose more than one photograph and tap on the number of stars
and all of the selected images will have the assigned rating. Tap on the number of stars a second time to re-rate a photograph or tap on the same number of stars to eliminate the star rating.
Sort
Sorting is what, Sort Shots is all about. Sort through all of your images instantly based on one or multiple criteria. It’s easy, fun and your results and instant.
1. Tap on
to open the Sort panel.

2. Tap on the term(s) of the photographs you would like to find. To filter your results, add additional criteria to your sort by tapping on the terms. Only those photographs that meet your criteria will be shown. Choose any combination of items, you are not limited!
- Type – Photos, videos or both.
- Favorite – images marked as a favorite.
- Rating – Limit your sort to only those images with a specific rating.
- Order – View your images in ascending or descending order i.e. for ratings, size, date, etc.
3. To eliminate all sort criteria and view your entire library, tap
.
Your sort results are instant. When complete, simple tap outside of the Sort area and the Sort box will close.

Sequence
You can change the sequence of images using the sequence function of Sort Shots. There are several options including:
- Name
- Date
- Size
- Rating
- Custom
1. Select the sequencing option you would like along with the Ascending or Descending option.
2. To create a custom slideshow – tap on ‘Custom’. The sequence in which the images will play in the order indicated by number on the
icon.
3. Simply tap and drag the thumbnails in the sequence you desire. Once complete, tap on ‘Done’ in the top right-hand side of the display.

Note: Date when the file was last modified using the iTunes ‘Folders’ sync option or the date when the image was added to their library using the ‘Add Photos’ function within Sort Shots.
Hint – File Information: To view the name, size or date of a file use the press-and-hold action on the selected thumbnail

Saved Sorts
If you would like to save your sort or custom sequence:
1. Complete your Sort or Sequence so the desired results are shown.
2. Tap
a list of previously Saved Sorts will appear:

3. Tap on any of the saved Titles to view the results – a checkmark will appear indicating the sort currently being displayed.
4. Save a new sort by tapping in the text area, typing a title and the
icon.
5. To delete a sort tap on the trash can icon.
Share
Play a slideshow based on your results or your entire library or upload/e-mail selected image(s) of your choosing.
Slideshow
1. Complete a Sort/Sequence of the images you wish to show or simply show your entire photo library.
2. At your option, you can choose the music you wish to play with your slideshow by going into settings indicated by
and selecting the tracks you wish to add to your slideshow. Additionally, you can choose various other options including types of transitions, length of time to play each slide, Repeat and Shuffle.
3. Press the
button.
Share your Photos on Flickr, Picasa, Twitter or Facebook
1. Select the image(s) you wish to share.
2. Press
and then the selected site.
3. Sign-in to your selected site or create an account.
4. Files will be posted once the file upload is complete.
**Please note: an internet connection is required.**
E-Mail or Assign Images to Contact
1. Double tap on the individual image to view the individual image.
2. Tap on
to e-mail the image or assign it to a contact.
Export Photographs Back to PC/Mac with your Tags and Ratings
Once you have assigned your tags and ratings to your images, you need to move your images back to your PC/Mac.
FTP
To transfer files via FTP:
1. Open Sort Shots – tap on ‘+’ and select ‘FTP’ a box will appear showing the host and port: ‘Connect to 192.168.1.65 Port 8080′

2. Open your FTP client, enter the host address into the ‘Host: _____’ and enter in the Port address in the ‘Port:____’ field. You can leave the Username and Password blank. Click on Quickconnect.

3. The ‘Local Site’ will show the files on your computer and the Remote Site will show the photo files on your iPad. To move your image files from your iPad back to your PC/Mac, click on one or select all image files on your iPad (Ctrl-A) and then drag the file(s) over to the folder you wish to put the files under the ‘Remote Site’. Your files will be queued and transfered to your PC/Mac.
4. Once the files have been transfered, you can close the FTP and click on ‘Stop FTP Server’ on your iPad.
5. Open your chosen photo software program and import/add the images from the folder you just copied the images into.
The images tags and ratings will appear. Please note that ratings are not supported by all photo software so please refer to the chart on which programs support which data fields.
iTunes
To export photographs from your Sort Shots library to your PC using iTunes:
1. Sync your iPad with iTunes
2. Select your iPad under ‘Devices’ then click on the ‘Apps’ tab.
3. Scroll down to ‘File Sharing’ and select ‘Sort Shots’. A list of all of your photographs will appear.
4. Select the individual photographs or all (Ctrl-A) and drag to a folder on your desktop or click on ‘Save As’ and choose the folder you wish to save your photographs in.
Once you have exported your images back to your PC/Mac you can import the images into various software packages and the tags (and in some cases, ratings) will automatically appear.
Function Overview

Start your slideshow.
Reset Sort criteria.
Deselect all images.
Resize your thumbnail images
Favorite – tap and hold on a thumbnail or tap on icon in individual image view – it will change to red
