iTunes Reviews can be less than reliable or fair especially since developers have no method of responding. In hopes of making the process somewhat equitable, here are some responses to reviews.
“The program would not drag the photo I selected, but the one before it. Some photos refused to be dragged at all. Then I was exited out of the reorder mode (hit the wrong part of the screen?”
Sequencing option works perfectly. Have not received any other feedback of this occurring to anyone else. Tap on the image you wish to move and simply drag it. Once you are done sequencing your images press ‘Done’ or save icon if you wish to save it.
“Even when I selected the photos for the album, all photos remained displayed, instead of just the ones I had selected.”
The main area shows all of your images. Once you complete a Sort, only those images will appear. You need to do a sort to see the results of it.
“This app claims to with with Lightroom and Aperture. But they don’t tell you it doesn’t work with RAW files. Only jpegs.”
Actually, it states JPEG files in the description of the app and the website.
“Developer needs to respond to users e-mails and suggestions”
We generally reply to all inquiries within 24 hours. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower – we too like to get out and take photos. We do consider all suggestions but keep in mind everything takes time – from ideas, to implementation, to coding, to approval.
“This app doesn’t sync metadata with iPhoto as claimed, unless you first export the photos you want to sync from iPhoto on your Mac!! That’s great, as long as you like filling up your hard drive with useless doubles of your photos, going through hoops to add new photos to Sort Shots, and having no way to sync changes you make on the app with changes in iPhoto and vice versa!”
We don’t claim to sync metadata we use existing metadata so when you import or export your images, the metadata remains with the images. If you have a folder that you sync with your iPad you can easily transfer the files you want to and from your PC/Mac/iPad. We don’t want to automatically sync your images – these are your memories and we want to ensure users have control on syncing the data.
“Program shuts down when double tapping on a pic”
This is an issue with the new iOS operating system and an update is being worked on to fix this.
Update: Version 2.6 has been released which fixes all of the bugs due to the iOS update by Apple. If you encounter any other bugs please let us know.
“Files downloaded from my SD card get renamed to SS#” “The app changes your files name, date, removes the data your camera added to them and even changes the images’ sizes”
Apple does not allow the sharing of photos via ‘Library’. This is easily overcome using iTunes Folders and adding images via FTP. If you use either of these two methods, ALL photo data remains intact. We do NOT change any image resolution. For help using Folders or FTP click here.
“Rearranging images and organizing them into groups could be more intuitive”
We thought it was pretty intuitive with the drag ‘n’ drop feature. We love suggestions so please e-mail us.
“The app does allow you to tag photos so that you can view them by category, but if you download (photos) as albums, you’ve pretty much done that already, haven’t you? The advantage is that now you can tag categories that transcend categories but this is a minor matter since it has always been possible simply to create additional albums (e.g. separate album for each person’s name) prior to syncing”
Actually, no. Sorting allows you to pull images up from all of your ‘albums’ without having to search through all of your albums. If you were looking for a person in a place chances are you are going to search through a variety of different albums – based on a person and a place. Then once you find the ‘right’ album, you will need to scroll through the album looking for the photo. There is no mechanism within albums to find an image other than scrolling through it. Sort Shots provides multiple searching criteria including three layers of tags, ratings and favorites. To find an image tap on a person’s name, add a place, a rating or a favorite and instantly see the results.
“You can’t choose a tagged photo to be used as wallpaper.”
Sort Shots was designed as a method to shoot, sort and share your images. Sharing via a slideshow, e-mail, assigning to a contact or uploading one or more images to Facebook, Twitter, Picasa or Flickr. Wallpapers do not fall within our scope. However, you can add a Sort Shots image to your wallpaper with the ‘Save to Library’ option then selecting the image as your wallpaper in Settings.
“The screen does not scroll up and down when you want to drag an item beyond the space that is immediately visible”
We missed this – the next update will incorporate the scrolling beyond the current page when sequencing photographs.
UPDATE: Newest version includes this.
“The thumbnails only display square images”
When we designed Sort Shots, user feedback wanted to have a similar image look regardless if it was a landscape or portrait image. So we listened to our users.
“Pics are blurry”
We can only help sort your photos, we don’t fix them!
“Scrolling of images in not quite as smooth as Apple’s”
We gave our custom scroll bar some steroids. You’ll see this in the next update.
“Importing Photos one at a time is very tedious”
We have added a ‘select all’ if you choose to add your images via ‘Library’.
“Can’t label each pic with ease”
We thought it was pretty easy, select one or more images (a check mark appears) then select one or more tags.
“The share feature doesn’t work or I can’t get it to work for Picasa”
You will need an internet connection for it to upload.
‘Location services have to be turned on, what’s up with that?”
This was something that Apple changed. We’ve updated the latest release so this will no longer occur.
“The rating system never goes away and looks unprofessional when you’re presenting to clients”
Feedback we received was wonderful to have this. We will work on providing this as an option in the future.
“You click sort based on “name” and you get random arrangements”.
We’ve tested this extensively and cannot replicate this. Please send us an e-mail on how you are achieving this.
“Does not support rotation of the iPad”
Huh? Sort Shots has always supported rotation. If you are referring to rotate an image, select an image(s), open up preferences and select the degree of rotation you desire. A motion to do this will be offered in the next build.
“Every time you open the app it performs the index – who wants to wait 10 minutes each time you open it?”
It will only index if new images have been added via Library or Folders. Indexing occurs in the background so you can use Sort Shots while it runs this sequence.
“The primary obstacle is that sorts are strictly alphabetical so that the sort order is, 1, 10, 100 rather than 1, 2, 3 etc. when there is any text as part of the file name (there needs to be a ‘sort numerical’ choice in preferences’).
Thanks – we fixed this bug.

If i assign five stars to a photo using sortshots, and then open the same photo in Windows Explorer the photo does not keep the five stars. I want to use sortshots to organize photos and then open the files in Windows Explorer to see and keep the stars i gave to every file. Your help would be appreciated.
Hello,
Only programs that read a photographs metadata rating will reflect the data assigned to it within Sort Shots. Please refer to: http://www.sortshots.com/howto/help/#AddPhotos for a summary of programs and their support.
If we can provide further assistance please contact us.
Thanks for publishing this page. I saw your app on iTunes and when I read the reviews I wasn’t sure but I checked out this page and purchased it. Its a dream app and you did an amazing job of it. Thanks on behalf of all photographers who need a fast and easy way to show clients our portfolio.
